Who can borrow from the Ritz Library?

Current students (including concurrent students from high schools) faculty & staff

Your DCC SUNY card is required to take out books, media or reserve items and to use study rooms. Student ID cards can be obtained from the Campus Security office in the Student Services Building.

Faculty and Staff of the college

Faculty and staff must present their ID card to borrow books and media items.

Alumni

Register as an alumnus with the DCC Foundation. A DCC SUNY card is required to take out books or reserve items. Up to five items may be borrowed.  Alumni Pamphlet p. 1 & p. 2.

Community Borrowers (Adult Dutchess or Putnam County Residents)

Register at the library as a Community Borrower. Proof of residency required. A Ritz Library Community Borrower card is  required to take out books, media or reserve items. Up to five items may be borrowed. Community Borrower Pamphlet p. 1 & p. 2.

Open Access (another SUNY campus) Students, faculty or staff

Current ID from a SUNY institution (including Empire State College) required to take out books, media  or reserve items. Verification of SUNY status required. Open Access Pamphlet p. 1 & p. 2

Credit Free students & instructors

A DCC SUNY card ID is required to take out books or use reserve items.

How long can I borrow a book?

Loan Periods

  • Most books may be borrowed for three weeks.
     
  • Reserve materials, magazines, newspapers & certain hard-to-replace materials can only be used in the library.
     
  • Media (DVDs, videos, etc) cannot be taken out of the Ritz by students. Loans are for four hours. A media viewing area is located next to the printing room on the 3rd floor.
     
  • Reference books are available for borrowing at the discretion of the Reference Department staff.
     
  • Books at the DCC South Library are for in-house use only and may not be checked out.

Returns

  • Books should be returned to the Circulation Desk when the library is open.

  • Outside book drops are located at the Creek Road entrance to Hudson Hall & the 4th floor entrance of Hudson Hall across from Bowne Hall. Book drops are open 24 hours a day.

  • If the library is closed, any books returned will be checked in as if they were returned on the last day the library was open.

Renewals

  • Books may be renewed every three weeks unless requested by another person. Books cannot be renewed past the last date of the semester.

  • Books with the label "Hot Topic" or "Juvenile" may not be renewed.

Renewals may be done in person or by calling 431-8639.

Holds

Once at the Ritz Library Catalog, log into "MyAccount" on the upper right hand side of the screen using your myDCC username and password. Search catalog. From the "results" list of a search, click on the "Is it here?" link for the item you wish to place on hold. Click on the button that says "Request" under the "Request Hold" header on the left. Fill in the information requested under "Period of Interest" and click on "Go".

Is there a way for me to see what books I've taken out?

Yes, you can! Click here for the Ritz Library Catalog. Click on My Account in the upper right corner. You'll be asked to enter your MyDCC login (firstname.lastname) and your password and you can view what library items you have currently checked out.

Can I place a book on hold and pick it up later?

Yes. To place a hold on a book online, you must go to the library catalog: Ritz Library Catalog

Log into the catalog using your myDCC username and password. From the "results" list of a search, click on the "Is it here?" link for the item you wish to place on hold. Click on the button that says "Request" under the "request Hold" header. Fill in the information requested under "Period of Interest", depending on your wishes.

If you cannot renew online, call Circulation at 845-431-8639.

What if I lose or damage a book?

There is a minimum replacement fee of $50.00 for every lost book and $75 for a DVD or video. Damaged materials will be assessed individually. Books damaged beyond repair will be treated as lost books.

Can I sign out books for a friend?

We strongly recommend that you do not sign out books for friends. If you do and the materials are lost or damaged you will be held responsible for all fines and fees and your college transcripts may be held pending resolution of these fees. Books may be held by the Circulation staff for a few days for anyone who does not have their SUNYCard in their possession.
