All the books below were challenged or removed from public school libraries and classrooms and public library shelves for varying reasons. In recent years, however, the motive for challenging or forcing removal has centered around either issues of race or the LGBTQ community. The banning of books goes back thousands of years but the issues have changed and evolved as much as literature itself.
