All the books on this page were challenged or removed from public school libraries and classrooms and public library shelves for varying reasons. The banning of books goes back thousands of years but the issues have changed and evolved as much as literature itself. In recent years the motive for challenging or forcing removal has centered around either issues of race or those involving LGBTQIA+ culture.
